DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving.  On Tuesday as my son Kevin, KC8OXY, was on his way to my house to go hunting, he saw and got a 10 point buck deer about half way up my driveway.  After he took care of the deer, he invited me to his house for a Thanksgiving dinner.  After the dinner was over my daughter Cathy Wotring, KC8DJJ, brought six packaged dinners and a pie for me to take home.  It looks like I'll have enough food to last me several days.

This past week I worked on the Wetzel County NODE/PBBS of WETZWV/NMARWV.  The radio powered up okay, and was able to be programed, but it doesn't put out any power.  I haven't tested the TNC yet, but I have one that I've already upgraded, if that one is bad.  I put together another Washington County, OH, NODE/PBBS of WASHOH/MRTAOH, that's been down for a few years.  My plans are to take the station up to the tower site this coming Wednesday, and put it back into operation.  While I was at the tower site yesterday checking on the Williamstown Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network (AREDN) HSMM (High Speed MultiMedia) node, I noticed there has been a lot of tower work being done.  There was an antenna and mounting bracket laying on the ground near the tower which they had removed. I hope the tower crew isn't removing the antennas that are used for the DAREN station and the 147.255 MHz Remote Receiver.  They still have ropes hanging on the tower and tools in the area so they must still be going to work on the tower.

The State Wide DAREN Net this coming weekend, December 4th, will be an SES (Special Event Station).  The Callsign for the Net Control Station this weekend will be "W8W" instead of "NET".  You can connect to the SES from the same paths as the State Wide DAREN Net.  You can get a little more information about the National Weather Service SES from the November 7th issue of the DAREN News of WV.  Your check-in to SES this week will also be counted as a check-in to the State Wide DAREN Net.

There were 33 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.
