DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

I received an E-Mail from Ted Jackobson, W8KVK, asking for the State Wide DAREN Net to participate in the annual SRD (Skywarn Recognition Day) special event, representing the National Weather Service office in Charleston WV.  The SRD will operate Saturday, December 4, 2021 (UTC) or on Friday, December 3, from 1900 EST, through Saturday December 4, 1900 EST.  Ted said that it's been many years since Charleston Weather has participated, and Tony Edwards, KJ4FYM, the Warning Coordination Meteorologist at Charleston Weather Service is requesting regional operating support for a return to active SRD participation.  As per current NWS Covid policy, control operators will be operating as home, portable, or mobile stations, external to the actual forecast office building.  The Special Event Station will be using the callsign "W8W".  The State Wide DAREN Net that weekend will be using the callsign of "W8W" in the place of "NET" as the Net Control Station.  Ted said that he would like to promote the DAREN system with the Charleston Weather as well as with the southeast Ohio packet network.  For DAREN users who wish to 'chase SRD certificates' this year, they may wish to request their 'very own' SRD Registration Number via the National SRD website: https://www.weather.gov/crh/skywarnrecognition  You can also find information on the website: https://qrz.com/db/w8w  Ted also wants to use the participation of the SES to exercise cross linking into DAREN system from the Southeast Ohio Packet Network: https://w8kvk.com/D9/D9-Packet-Map.pdf  Be sure to watch for the State Wide DAREN Net NCS Callsign change on the December 4, 2021 weekend only.

There were 36 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Lisa Hendershot, KB8UER, who has been participating in the net since August 20, 1994, has completed 1400 check-ins, and will be receiving her certificate.  Remington Sweitzer, KB3TXG, needs only one more check-in to make 400.  I want to welcome back Deborah Sayers, WV8DCS, who has been missing from the net since October 12, 1996, when her call was N8VAC.  I also want to welcome back Shaun Neidlinger, KB3CXQ, who has been missing from the net since November 28, 2015.  I want to welcome Jim Foster, WV8JHF, from Parkersburg, to the DAREN system.  I hope Jim participates in the State Wide DAREN Net as often as he can, and uses and learns how the DAREN system works.
