DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: email@example.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.
Not much to report this week. I will be attending a meeting at the Wood County 4-H Camp Ground tomorrow. The meeting is the Trustees of the Camp Ground. I will be asking permission to install a 50 foot tower in an unused area of the camp. If I get permission to install the tower it will be used to install another node station on the Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network (AREDN) HSMM (High Speed MultiMedia) system. From the tests that I've made it should give the system coverage into an area that at least three Amateurs live. The tower will also be used as a remote receiver for the WCEC (Wood County Emergency Communications) voice repeater on 147.255 MHz, and possibly a remote receiver for the PARK (Parkersburg Amateur Radio Klub) voice repeater on 146.97 MHz. We are hoping to have the tower up and in operation by October 9th.
That's pretty much all that's going on right now, so I'm going to start printing State Wide DAREN Net Certificates for those who have been waiting. If you have any information that you would like to pass on to those who read the DAREN News, let me know. Don't forget to mark your calendars for the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest that will be held on October 9th at the Wood County 4-H Camp Grounds in Mineral Wells. We are hoping to have a Show-N-Tell of the AREDN system.
There were 34 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. Melvin Shiflett,
KD8OHG, needs only one more check-in to make 300.
