DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

I received an E-Mail from Sonny Jobe, WC8L, about his Doddridge County NODE/PBBS of DODDWV/CENTWV.  Sonny said the station went down on Thursday, but he is hoping to have it back up by the weekend.  He said the cooler that he put on the equipment was full of ants as well as some water in the bottom.  He took the equipment off the hill and cleaned it up, and it looks like there was no permanent damage.  He's going to put the equipment in a water tight pelican box and is waiting for some waterproof connectors for the case.  The station operates on solar power, and I thought it may have went off the air since we have had several cloudy days.  I had the same problem with ants at one of my remote receiver sites once.  Now I just keep moth balls in the cabinets, and that seems to keep the ants away.

Well, the Parkersburg Homecoming is over for this year.  The WCEC (Wood County Emergency Communications) group had a successful BINGO activity.  The crowd wasn't as big as it has been in the past, but it was a good start after being gone last year.  A few things changed from the past with the concession set ups and some of the games, but it looks like it might be better next year.  WCEC had to transport seven equipment trailers to the activity to set every thing up. The BINGO games ended when the fireworks started Saturday evening.  After the fireworks were over, the group had to take everything apart, and load them back on the trailers.  Kendale Peterson, KD8QAK, coordinated how the trailers were going to pulled out of the area and back to their parking places.  Since some of the trailers didn't have lights, they tried to stay as close together as possible.  We got five of the trailer off the site, and back home about 2:00 am this morning.  Kendale, his mom Judy, N8UFQ, and I made a trip back to town this morning and pulled the last two trailers home.  The whole weekend was a job, but it added some funds to our checking account.

The West Virginia ARRL State Convention, will be held using the ZOOM meeting on the Internet.  The schedule should be posted in the next few days.

There were 30 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  With other activities slowing down, maybe I can find some time to get State Wide DAREN Net Certificates printed up for those who have been waiting for them.
