DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Last week I said the Randolph County NODE/PBBS of RANDWV/ELKNWV was off the air. By the time I posted the weekly DAREN News and State Wide DAREN Net Announcement the station was back in operation.  The problem may have just been caused by a power outage.  Anyway I'm glad to see it is back in operation.

Yesterday WCEC (Wood County Emergency Communications) held a one day Technician Class Amateur Radio class.  There were 12 non-amateurs and one Technician in the class.  The one Technician in the class, who's license has expired, and grace period will expire in May of next year, just wanted to sit in the class to see what changes has been made since he received his license over 10 years ago, and has never been on the air.  He needed help getting his license renewed.  Out of the 13 students in the class nine of them passed their Technician exam and will be getting their new license.  And, the paper was completed for the renewal license.  Out of the nine who passed their Technician exam, one of them had been studying the General Class material and passed the General exam.

Now that the one day class is over, We need to get everything ready for the Parkersburg Homecoming that will be held this coming weekend.  WCEC will be operating the BINGO games, as a fund raising event at the homecoming.  Since the games won't be in a building, but under a 24 by 80 canopy in an open field, all of the equipment will need to be taken to the site.  The BINGO games equipment will need to be taken to the homecoming on seven trailers.  Kendale Peterson, KD8QAK, and I will be pulling the equipment trailers to the homecoming on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  The canopy, tables, and chairs will be set up Thursday evening for the start of the homecoming on Friday evening.  Maybe after this weekend I'll have some time to get other things caught up.

I received an E-Mail a couple days ago saying the West Virginia ARRL State Convention, which was supposed to be held on August 28/29, has been cancelled again this year.

There were 31 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.
