DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Last week I said that I was going to try again and again to get the Parkersburg/ Wood County Hamfest registered with the ARRL.  Monday I filled out the Hamfest Application on the ARRL.org website again.  This time I did get a response back. The Hamfest is now on the ARRL.ORG website.  Since we said that further information could be found on the www.wc8ec.org website, I need to get with our web master, Bill Davidson, N8JXO, and get our website updated.

Yesterday I made a trip to the Wood County 4-H Camp Ground to do some AREDN (Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network (AREDN) HSMM (High Speed MultiMedia) system testing.  From that location with my mobile node, I was able to get a path to an area we have been working on.  I will be meeting with the 4-H Camp Ground officials on August 30th to talk about installing a 50 foot tower for a new node on the AREDN system.  In the next couple of weeks we will be installing a node at about 50 feet on a tower behind the Network Associate building on Rt 47.  If we get permission to install the tower on the 4-H Camp Ground property, there should be a good path between the two stations.  Those two stations should open another section of Wood County that we have been working on.

I case you haven't noticed, I have been starting the State Wide DAREN Net up at about 8:00 pm on Thursday, and closing it down some time Sunday morning, even though the Net Announcement says that it operates on Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.  Feel free to check into the net any time you see that is in operation.

There were 29 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Keith Dobbins, N8KLD, needs only one more check to make 350.
