DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Matt Gregg, WV8MAT, said the Mason County Amateurs are looking to add a second voice repeater in Mason County and linking to the their repeater in Point Pleasant.  If they do that, they are thinking of hanging another VHF antenna so they can possibility add either a second Packet station, or an APRS station.  He figures if they go the Packet route, that would cover some of Jackson County and some of Mason County since the tower site is near the county line on Rt 62 in Mount Alto.  He thinks he may be able to get some of the Amateurs who are in the Buffalo area of Putnam County into the systems.  Matt says they are in the early phase of the projects, and the pending funds.  He said it may happen this fall, or in the spring of next year.

Not much else to report this week.  Things seem to be slow as far as radio. Since my riding mower blew the engine, I purchased a finishing mower to put on the back of my garden tractor. I've been busy working on it.  I've also been getting things together that we found we needed for Field Day, so we will be ready for next year.  Since Parkersburg is going to hold a homecoming this year, we need to get everything ready to operate the BINGO games.  A couple years ago we started rebuilding our BINGO table, but that didn't get finished.  Since we didn't operate any BINGO games last year the tables got put on hold.  Now we need to get them finished before the 20th of August for the homecoming.

That's pretty much it for now.  If anyone wants to pass on activities that's happening in your area, let me know.

There were 32 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Gene Roy, N8ER, who's been participating in the net since May 1, 1993, has completed 1450 check- ins, and will be receiving his certificate.  Jim Woodford, KC8MLK, needs only one more check-in to make 850.  And, Donnie Woodford, KC8YVR, needs only one more check-in to make 800.
