DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

We just finished providing the BINGO games at a Flea Market here in the county. We didn't make much money, but we put a few dollars in the bank, and it gave us a chance to check out all of the equipment that we haven't used for over a year and a half.  At least we know what we need to do for the next BINGO event which will be held in August at the Parkersburg Homecoming.  We are trying to get back to some kind of normal activity.

After we left the Flea Market, a severe storm went through the area of the Flea Market, and Mountwood Park.  From the reports that we received, both locations received high water.  The Ritchie County NODE/PBBS of RITCWV/HRVLWV is located at a tower site located at Mountwood Park.  We received a report the Wood County Emergency Communications 147.255 MHz voice repeater, which is at the same location, and tower site is off the air.  When we checked the DAREN Node it was also down.  We're not for sure, but we're hoping it's just because the commercial power is off, and the back-up batteries are dead.  If the repeater and Node don't come back up by Wednesday, I'll make a trip to the tower site and check on both of the systems.

Now the BINGO games are over, we are going to start getting things ready for Field Day coming up on June 26th and 27th.  On the morning of Saturday, June 26th there will be a Chic-Fil-A Road Race.  We've been asked to have Amateur Radio operators at each of the six mile markers, and the start and finish lines. The race starts at 8:00 am and should be over by 11:00 am.  That should give us pleanty of time to get to the Field Day site and get ready for the 2:00 pm starting time.

There were 33 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Tricia Magyarosi, KC8VLI, who has been participating in the net since December 28, 2002, has completed 900 check-ins, and will be receiving her certificate.  And, Tricia's sister, Krista Mills, KC8VLJ, needs only one more check-in to make 900.
