DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

I've been busy this past week, and very little of it had to do with the DAREN system and the Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network (AREDN) HSMM (High Speed MultiMedia) 2.4 GHz system.  Since things have started opening back up from last year, I've been trying to get some of the equipment ready for some of the events that are being planned.  The Wood County Emergency Communications group has been asked to operate BINGO games at a Flea Market event on June 12th and 13th.  To get ready for that event we need to get at least four of the equipment trailers ready to take to the site.  The four trailers are how we store, and transport, the two 24 by 40 foot canopies, 150 chairs, and 36 tables.  The forth trailer is used to store the BINGO equipment, and call the BINGO games from.  Since it wasn't used at all last year, repair work needed to be done on the lift up side door.  Of course the BINGO Licenses needed to be applied for.  We also received a telephone call wanting to use both of the 24 by 40 foot canopies at a church event on Saturday, June 6th, which will need to be set up on Friday the 5th.  Of course Field Day is coming up on June 26th and 27th, so we are trying to make sure all of the equipment for it will be ready. So we've been busy this week and will probably be busy all month.

There were 35 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  I want to welcome Ted Jacobson, W8KVK, from Athens, Ohio, back to the net.  Ted has been missing from the net since February 7, 2007.  There was one station that checked into the net at about 7:05pm last night, with the callsign of "K".  If you checked into the net at around that time, and don't see you call on the net check-in list, please let me know so that I can add you to the participation. There was one new participant to the net this week, and that was Patrick Chumley, K8PEC, from Clarksburg.  I want to welcome Patrick to the DAREN system, and hope he participates in the State Wide DAREN Net as often as possible.
