DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

I received a couple E-Mails this past week.  One from Harold (Sonny) Jobe, WC8L, who said that he and Jason Robinson, N3LSJ, have received permission to install a DAREN station on the Harrison County YMCA building in Clarksburg. The YMCA building is located on Lowndes Hill the highest point in Clarksburg. The other E-Mail from Jason, who is familiar with linBPQ.  Jason uses linBPQ for his personal BBS and NODE.  Jason would like to use linBPQ software for the NODE/PBBS of HARRWV/CLKBWV.  I have no knowledge about linBPQ, but if it works with the DAREN Kantronics stations, it will help increase the coverage of DAREN system.

With all of the rain the last couple weeks nothing much has been done here in Wood County on either the DAREN or the Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network (AREDN) HSMM (High Speed MultiMedia) 2.4 GHz system.  I'm sure there will be some dry weather coming soon, and we can start on some outside projects.

That's it for this week, maybe things will start picking up.

There were 33 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  My Daughter Cathy Wotring, KC8DJJ, who has been participating in the net since April 27, 1996, has completed 1300 check-ins.  My son Kevin, KC8OXY, who has been participating in the net since July 1, 2000, has completed 1050 check-ins. And, Kenneth Weigel, W9GM, who has been participating in the net since July 28, 2018, has completed 100 check-ins.  All of these operators will be receiving their certificates.  I just got through checking the ink level on the printer that I print the DAREN Net Check-in Certificates.  While the weather is cold and rainy, I think I'll start printing certificates for those who have been waiting for them.
