DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

I've been under the weather for the last week or so, and haven't felt much like doing anything.  Then when I started getting better the weather itself slowed things down.  With good weather coming shortly, there are a lot of outside projects that needs to be worked on.  The site where we installed the 95 foot tower over the last couple of years needs to have a building built, and start getting power to it.  Plans are to operate the tower site completely from natural power (Wind and Solar).  At the present time there is one node on the Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network (AREDN) HSMM (High Speed MultiMedia) 2.4 GHz system at the site that operates on solar power.  We're getting donations of material to build the building.  We are planning to start the building as soon as the rain quits and the ground starts drying.  Since I've got to feeling better I have already designed and built one mounting outrigger for one of the two wind generators that we plan to install on the tower.  I still need to get State Wide DAREN Net certificates printed up, for those who have been waiting, that I have fell behind on.  I was hoping to have them already printed up and mailed out.  I just don't seem to have enough time to get everything done. That's it for this week.  Maybe I can get started again as soon as we get finished preparing for, and holding, the monthly Wood County Emergency Communications meeting this coming Tuesday.

There were 31 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Frank Hughes, WD8DEP, who has been participating in the net since November 20, 2004, has completed 800 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate.  My daughter Cathy Wotring, KC8DJJ, needs only one more check-in to make 1300.  My son Kevin, KC8OXY, needs only one more check-in to make 1050.  And, Kenneth Weigel, W9GM, needs only one more check-in to make 100.
