DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

It's been a busy week.  I was getting the material together to hold a one day Technician Class radio class yesterday.  We had nine people who took the class. Seven of them passed their test, and will be getting their license.  Several other people wanted to take the class, but they heard that getting into Amateur Radio would cost a lot of money.  After the class was over we heard they found out how wrong they were, and are wanting to attend a class in the future. Plans are being put together to hold another class in May.

Harold (Sonny) Jobe, WC8L, said he was going to move his new NODE/PBBS of DODDWV/CENTWV a little higher up the hill to get into the Ritchie and Randolph County NODEs, but had some problems with his antenna.  He ordered a new one and now has the station back on the air.  He installed the antenna in 30 to 40 MPH winds at an elevation of about 1550 feet.  It is on a pipeline right-a-way on his property line.  The station is completely solar powered.  He says the 1550 elevation isn't as high as a lot of the other stations, but it is a lot higher then the Ritchie County NODE/PBBS of RITCWV/HRVLWV, which is only 1320 feet. The station is doing a great job.  Thanks Sonny.

There were 41 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  There was one new participate to the net this week and that was Antonio Robinson, N3LSJ, from Clarksburg.  I want to welcome Antonio to the DAREN system and hope he participates in the State Wide DAREN Net as often as he can.  There was one station that checked into the net this week with the callsign of "NODE".  It looks like someone may have been trying to set the NODE ALIAS of his, or her, Packet station.  If you checked into the net this week around 12:57 yesterday, you might want to check the callsign of your TNC.  Also let me know so that I can give you the credit you deserve for participating in the net.  I won't let anyone know the mistake that you made,  I've made a several of them myself.
