DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

I received and E-Mail this week from Harold (Sonny) Jobe, WC8L, who lives in the northern part of Doddridge County.  He is wanting to get more involved with Packet Radio and the DAREN system.  Since he can't connect to the Ritchie County NODE/PBBS, he was wondering if there are any DAREN stations in Tyler or Wetzel County, which he might be able to work through.  I told him the main Tyler County NODE/PBBS has been down for several years, and probably won't be back up unless someone takes an interest in setting one up.  I told him that as soon as the weather gets good enough I plan on trying to get the Wetzel County station back in operation, which has been off for awhile.  He said there are several young people in his area that are getting interested in Amateur Radio, and he hopes to get some of them into Packet.

I have new Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network (AREDN) HSMM (High Speed MultiMedia) station ready to be installed this coming week.  It will be installed at the site of another set of Parkersburg water tanks .  I usually only go into town on Wednesday, so that will be the day we install the new node.  We're hoping the new station will allow some coverage in the southern part of Parkersburg.  The more stations that get installed the better the coverage will be.

There were 34 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Delmas Hartley, N8JYS, needs only one more check-in to make 400.
