DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A Statewide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

While I was right in the middle of posting, the DAREN News and Statewide DAREN Net Announcement this week, I had one of my station go off the air.  The Wood County NODE/PBBS of WOODWV/PKBGWV just quit working.  A couple years ago I had installed another DAREN station on the top of my 90-foot tower here at the house, I called it WOODWV-1/PKBGWV-1.  I installed the station because the main WOODWV/PKBGWV would go off the air when the temperature dropped below about 30 degrees.  After going off the air a few times, I changed out the station, and didn't have any more problems, until Thursday.  I tried several times during the day, but the station wouldn't come back up.  Since I had left the new Wood County, WOODWV-1/PKBGWV-1 on the air, I decided to take advantage of it and changed it's aliases to WOODWV/PKBGWV.  Since Conard Richardson, KE8HLU, wanted to connect the old WOODWV/PKBGWV to the new Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network (AREDN) HSMM (High Speed MultiMedia) system, he purchased an interface cable.  As soon as the weather gets a little better so that we can make a trip to the tower site, we will get the old WOODWV/PKBGWV back on the air and install the interface cable.  I'm not for sure how it's going to work, but I think stations that connect to the DAREN side of the interface will be able to connect to the AREDN system, at least that's what I'm thinking, I could be wrong.  At the present time Conard has the Chatroom of his WAVEWV station connected to the MeshChat room on the AREDN system.  I've been busy and haven't had time to try out the Chat Rooms.

There were 30 check-ins to the Statewide DAREN Net this week.  There was one new operator to the net.  I want to welcome Edward Caplinger, KD8MIB, from Franklin, WV, to the DAREN system.  I hope Edward continues checking into the net each week and learns his way around the DAREN system.
