DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: firstname.lastname@example.org. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.
Not much to report this week. Sammy Mercer, N8SVX, and I installed an Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network (AREDN) 2.4 GHz HSMM (High Speed MultiMedia) Mesh node at the Wirt County tower site where the WCEC (Wood County Emergency Communications) group has the Wirt County NODE/PBBS of WIRTWV/ELIZWV, and a remote receiver for their 147.255 MHz voice repeater. The site is able to see three different AREDN nodes, but not good enough for connection. We're not using any point-to-point antennas, only omni-directional ones. It was determined it's about 23 miles from the Wirt County node to nearest node that can be seen. On Wednesday, I'm planning to install a temporary node in the north end of Parkersburg to see if other Amateurs in that area are able to connect into the AREDN system. I've been experimenting by connecting to the DAREN system through the AREDN system. There are still some problems, but they can be worked out.
That's pretty much it for this week. If you have any questions or information that you would like to pass on to those who read the DAREN News, let me know.
There were 30 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net again this week. Lisa Hendershot, KB8UER, needs only one more check-in to make 1350.
