DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: firstname.lastname@example.org. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.
Not much to write about this week. I've been trying to rest up after Field Day, but I still have a lot of equipment to get sorted out and stored away until next year's Field Day. By getting it sorted out, and stored, will make it easy to find if something comes up and we need to provide emergency communications. I'm starting to put together some pieces of equipment that we found we needed which would help set up the operating stations next year. I usually start building, or making, things while they are fresh on my mind. I'll be taking a sample of some of the new items to the Wood County Emergency Communications meeting this coming Tuesday for Show-N-Tell. I'm also designing a mounting bracket for the Solar Panels that I have. I want to mount at least one Solar Panel on the new 95 foot tower to power the HSMM (High Speed Multimedia) 2.4 GHz system node. At Field Day we were testing to see how much power the HSMM node needs. I think that one panel and one 3 amp battery will keep the node in operation until we build the radio building, and get the other Solar Panels and wind generator on operation.
If anyone has something they would like to pass on to others let me know.
There were 34 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. Krista Mills, who has been participating in the net since December 28, 2002, has completed 850 check-ins. And, Jim Woodford, KC8MLK, who has been participating in the net since February 7, 2004, has completed 800 check-ins. Both of these operators will be receiving their certificates.
