DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A Statewide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

It's been another quiet week for the DAREN System, and Packet Radio in general. A lot of my time is getting ready for Field Day and trying to get some paths working on the HSMM (High Speed Multimedia) 2.4 GHz system.  Field Day is only a couple weeks away, and I still need to get some things put together.  For several years our group has been using a homemade two-hole Port-A-John that is built on a trailer.  But, since it's always left out in the weather, it's starting to fall apart.  I've got another Port-A-John planned that should be just as good.  I'm hoping to have it completed in the next week or so.  Last year we had trouble with our logging system.  We have acquired some used laptop computers, so with any luck that problem may be taken care of.  There are a lot of little things that happened last year, that we hope to have corrected.  But, as always there will be new problems this year.

There were 33 check-ins to the Statewide DAREN Net this week.  Donnie Woodford, KC8YVR, who's been participating in the net since November 27, 2004, has completed 750 check-ins.  Remington Sweitzer, KB3TXG, who has been participating in the net since October 2, 2010, has completed 350 check-ins. And, Ken "Cappy" Caplinger, who has been participating in the net since January 16, 2016, has completed 150 check-ins.  All of these operators will be receiving their certificates as soon as I can get back to printing them up. Anna Hendershot, KC8JWW, needs only one more check-in to make 1150.  I want to welcome Joe Wigal, W8JTW, back to the net.  Joe has been missing from the net since February 26, 2011.  I also want to welcome two net participates to the net, and they are Joe's wife Donna, KD8DLY, and son Nathaniel, W8NJW, all from Marietta, Ohio, to the net.  I hope they all keep participating in the net, and use the system as often as they can.
