DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Gene Roy, N8ER, sent me an E-Mail telling me about the Preston County NODE/PBBS of PRESWV/KINGWV that's been off the air for some time.  He said he made contact with David Sypolt, KC8YSO, who may be able to get the station back on the air.  It depends on what might be wrong with the station.

Five W5YI VE examiners were on hand yesterday at the Eastwood VFD fire station to administer 15 exams to some Amateurs and non-Amateurs.  Nine Amateurs and non-Amateurs came from as far away as Cleveland, OH, Jackson, OH, and Huntington, WV, to take exams.  Some came to take their tests for Technician, some for General, and some for Extra.  A couple people took their Technician and General exams, and one came to take all three exams.  Every one that came to take an exam was successful on what they came to take.  I want to thank the Eastwood Volunteer Fire Department for the use of their fire station.  After the testing was over there was a show-n-tell of a lot of equipment that was Amateur radio related.  Sammy Mercer, N8SVX, brought and set up some of the HSMM (High Speed Multimedia) system equipment that he has been working on.  A couple of Amateurs even brought their HF transceivers, that aren't working, to be looked at.  One Amateur brought a 2 Meter Ringo Ranger antenna that he couldn't get to work.  We got the antenna to work, but the two transceivers, need to be repaired.  Since it didn't rain, and the weather was warm, it was a great day to set up the equipment outside.  A show-n-tell should be done often to let Amateurs and non-Amateurs get an idea what Amateurs can do.

There were 33 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net again this week.  Frank Hughes, WD8DEP, who has been participating in the net since November 20, 2004, has completed 750 check-ins.  And, Kenneth Weigel, W9GM, who has been participating in the net since July 28, 2018, has completed 50 check-ins.  Both of these operators will be receiving their certificates.  My son Kevin, KC8OXY, needs one more check-in to make 1000.  I want to welcome Jeremie Hamilton, KB3UMW, back to the net.  Jeremie has been missing from the net since June 7, 2014.  I've been getting a little bit behind with getting certificates printed up and mailed out.  Maybe I'll try to get caught up this week.
