DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Instead of holding their monthly business meeting by telephone, the Wood County Emergency Communications group held their meeting at their normal location. Before the meeting started two non-amateurs took their tests.  One of those who took their test drove three hours from Kentucky.  He took, and passed both the Technician, and General test.  The other one took, and passed his Technician test.  The Wood County VE group is planning to hold another test session next Saturday, May 16th, at the Eastwood Volunteer Fire station on Route 47 about 15 miles East of Parkersburg.  Several people have been calling to ask about the testing.

Sammy Mercer, N8SVX, finally found the correct firmware program to load onto the Ubiquiti Bullet M2 HP WiFi units that are going to be used on the HSMM (High Speed Multimedia) system being established in Wood County.  Sammy and I are learning more about how the HSMM system works.  While Sammy is working on the WiFi units, I'm in the process of building the 2.4 GHz antennas for the system.  As we have been talking about the HSMM system on several nets, more Amateurs in the area are getting interested in getting involved.  We still have a lot to learn, but we do have six of the Ubiquiti units programed and communicating with each other.  The first link between two locations will be installed as soon as the weather gets good enough to do the tower work.

There were 33 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Frank Hughes,
WD8DEP, needs only one more check-in to make 750.  And, Kenneth Weigel, W9GM, needs only one more check-in to make 50.
