DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

On Friday I had an enjoyable telephone conversation with Frank Hughes, WD8DEP. Frank gave me some information about the Barbour County DAREN NODE/PBBS of BARBWV/PHILWV.  Before Frank had moved from Barbour County to Elkins, he owned the property and the tower where the station was located.  Since then there has been a couple exchange of hands of the property and he's not for sure who owns it now.  I guess the owner of the propery was providing the power to the station.  It's possible the new owner may have decided to do away with the tower.  Frank gave me a couple of names, call signs, and a telephone number to try to contact some one to find out about the station.  The names and call signs were: Tim Davis, KC8TYK, and Lemuel Jones, KC8LEG.  If anyone knows how to contact them, you might let them know about the Barbour County DAREN station.  I'm afraid that without the Barbour County NODE, there will be at least two operators who won't be able to make it into this coming State Wide DAREN Net.

There were 39 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.
