DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A Statewide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

It's been a quiet week without much to report.  I would like to announce that we should have a new Eagle Boy Scout this week.  Kendale Peterson, KD8QAK, who is the son of Judy Peterson, N8UFQ, has just one more step to complete, to become an Eagle Scout.  This coming Wednesday Kendale will have his final interview with the scout leaders.  He has worked hard getting this far. Kendale has been interested in Amateur Radio since he had just turned 5 years old a couple days before Field Day 2007.  Kendale saw everyone else talking on the radios and wanted to give it a try.  With a little help, he made his first contact, and then several more after that.  In 2011 when Kendale was 8 years old, he got his Technician Class license.  Every time the Field Day subject came up, he was ready to operate.  In November 2014 Kendale upgraded to his General class license.  Kendale will be graduating High School this year.  It's hard to get the younger generation interested in Amateur Radio, but there are a few.  I have four grand children, two that are out of High School, and two who have a couple more years of High School left.  The grand children are Ryan Riser, KD8LKZ, his Brother Kyle, KD8PYM, Colt Wotring, KD8UAC, and his sister Kymber, KD8UQR.  Ryan and Kyle are the sons of Jenifier, KC8UYB, and Rick, KC8VLM.  Colt and Kymber are the son and daughter of Cathy, KC8DJJ, and Larry, KC8TRQ.  They aren't as active as Kendale, but they do help, and operate, when they can.  We need to get more kids interested in Amateur Radio.

There were 30 check-ins to the Statewide DAREN Net this week.  Matt Gregg, WV8MAT, needs only one more check-in to make 100.

That's it for now.  If you have anything you would like to pass on to those who read the DAREN News, let me know.
