DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A Statewide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

I hope everyone had a safe and good Thanksgiving and didn't eat too much.  My son Kevin, KC8OXY, came out on Tuesday to go deer hunting.  He was lucky and left with one good size deer.  I'm not much of a hunter myself, but I gave him a hand getting it loaded up so he could take it home.

The weather hasn't been good enough to get back to new tower, and it doesn't look like it's going to get much better for awhile.  I would have liked to got the rest of the tower up before the end of the year so that I could start planning on hanging antennas when spring gets here.  I'd like to get some more backup stations ready to go into operation.

Bill Davidson, N8JXO, and I will be attending a SIRN (State Interoperability Radio Network) meeting on Thursday in Ripley.  Several years ago, the SIRN group ask to have Amateur Radio be on the committee.  They told us they know nothing is perfect, and they want to make sure they have a backup communication group available.

Not much else happening around here, all of our community activities for the year are done.  Our group is getting ready to have our Christmas dinner before the WCEC (Wood County Emergency Communications) meeting on Tuesday evening.  My wife Dot, KC8HAI, has been making plans for the last two weeks on what she needs to do.  The WCEC group used to help with the Christmas Parade in Parkersburg, but the parade officials haven't asked for our help for a few years.  They said they can do with their cellphone what we can do with our radios.

There were 33 check-ins to the Statewide DAREN Net this week.  Lisa Hendershot, KB8UER, who's been participating in the net since August 20, 1994, has completed 1300 check-ins and will be receiving her certificate.  Mark Sweitzer, KD8MIV, needs only one more check-in to make 350.  And, I want to welcome Patrick Roy, KB8CWR, from Gerrardstown, WV, back to the net.  Patrick has been missing from the net since December 22, 2007.

That's about it for now.  Maybe next week I will have something that might be worth reading.
