DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A Statewide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

While posting the DAREN News and Statewide DAREN Net Announcement this past week, I noticed the NODE/PBBS of TUCKWV/DAVIWV in Tucker County was off the air. I received an E-Mail from Gene Roy, N8ER, telling me the NODE/PBBS, and the voice repeater at the same tower site were both off the air.  He's hoping it's not anything major.  Lets hope it's just a power problem and both station will be back on the air shortly.

The weather hasn't been good enough to be working outside, so there hasn't been much done around here.  It's that time of the year again that I start having sinus problems and can't do much work inside, or out.  Joe Thomas, N8MEV, built me a mounting bracket for one of my 600 Watt Wind Turbines.  As soon as I start feeling better, I'll put the turbine on one of the towers to see if it will generate any electricity.  I'm hoping that it will generate enough power to help charge the batteries that will be at the new tower site.  From the tests that I have done, I'm not for sure if it will do what I want, or not.  For the last few years during Field Day I've experimented with solar panels and they seem to be pretty good.  I hope by using both solar and wind, I will be able to power the tower site.

There were 32 check-ins to the Statewide DAREN Net this week.  Well, I only need to participate in the net one more time to make 1400.  There was one new station that made it into the net this week.  The new station was KB9PVH, Steven Phelps, from Lowell, Wisconsin.  I figure Steven worked his way from HF Packet through either Conard Richardson, KE8LHU, HF to VHF station on 40 Meters, or Phil, KE8GCL, his dad's HF to VHF station on 20 Meters.  However, he made it, I want to welcome Steven to the DAREN of WV system and hope he checks in as often as he can.
