DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio
"Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any
information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share
it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail:
wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A Statewide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00
pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net
Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both,
and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main
county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and
www.wc8ec.org websites.

We had good weather on Monday for doing tower work.  Joe Thomas, N8MEV, Sammy
Mercer, N8SVX, and I were able to work on the new tower in short sleeves.  We
now have 65 feet of the tower up and guyed off.  Joe is putting together another
Ginpole that will be a whole lot lighter.  The one we have been using was built
30 years ago, and seems to be getting heavier as the years go by.  The new one
should be a lot easier to work with.  If we get some more good weather, we may
be able to put up the last three sections of tower, then we can start hanging
antennas.  I have the outriggers for the first three antennas built, they just
need to be painted.

The organizers of a benefit that was held yesterday said that it went very well.
Joe Thomas, N8MEV, and I just got finished pulling the Wood County Emergency
Communication trailers with the canopies, tables, and chairs back home.  Now
that all of the activities for the year are over we can start doing some work on
the trailers that needs to be done, and I can start putting together some DAREN
Packet stations that need to be replaced.

If you haven't already changed your clocks back an hour from Day Light Savings
Time, now is the time to do it.  Also don't forget to change the time in your
TNCs (Terminal Node Controllers), both terminal and remote, hilltop/mountain
top.  While you are changing the time in your TNCs, now would be a good time to
give them a SOFT RESET, which basically means turning them OFF and back ON.
When you turn them OFF, give them a few seconds before turning them back ON.
It been known, by experience, that turning them OFF and then immediately
turning them back ON may spike the memory and erase its programming back to day
one, when it first came out of the box.  Giving them a SOFT RESET will remove
most minor problems that have build up in them since the last time they were
RESET.  Also don't forget to change the batteries in your homes Smoke and CO
Detectors.

There were only 29 check-ins to the Statewide DAREN Net.
