DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A Statewide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Conard Richardson, KE8HLU, is putting up a 45-foot tower at his house.  When he gets it finished, he may have the antenna for his WAVEWV Internet interface system up a lot higher.  His system works pretty well as it is, but it may help those who can't get into it.

Today Kendale Peterson, KD8QAK, and about 20 others showed up for a work party of painting the chain link fence, posts, and gates around the community cemetery.  Most of the fence got painted, but in one area there was a Yellow Jackets nest underground and that section couldn't get painted.  As soon as it gets removed, we can finish his community project, but that shouldn't keep him from becoming an Eagle Boy Scout.

This week will be another busy week getting ready for the Volcano Days Engine Show and Festival.  I will be taking five trailers to Mountwood Park to set up for the BINGO games.  It looks like it's going to be a better event this year than what it was last year.  Last year we had so much rain before the event that we had a hard time getting the trailers where they needed to be, and one trailer we couldn't take.  The groups Communication Trailer which is used for the BINGO office we couldn't use last year.  We knew we couldn't get into the muddy area. We had to set up a tent in the mud, and the whole event was a mess.  It's funny though, there were still several BINGO players that played in the mud.  Don't forget the Parkersburg Amateur Radio Klub will be operating their Special Event Station on Saturday September 28th at Volcano Days.

That's it for this week.  After Volcano Days we'll have a couple weeks that I can work on Packet station before the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest on October 12th.

There were only 29 check-ins again to the Statewide DAREN Net this week. Jackalynn Wolf, KC3LML, needs only one more check-in to make 50.
