DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A Statewide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Since Conard Richardson, KE8HLU, had to be out of town last week he took his Internet Interface system of WAVEWV off the air in case trouble.  When he got back home on Friday he put the station back in operation.

I received an E-Mail from Mike Tyler, WA8YWO, about his Nicholas NODE/PBBS of NICHWV/RWODWV.  He said there was a severe electrical storm that went through his area a few weeks back and made a mess of things.  He said that he was able to get the station back on the air, and it now has a battery back-up system. He figures the station should be able to stay on the air for a few days if the power goes off again.

Last week I spent a couple days working on the WCEC (Wood County Emergency Communications) communication trailer.  It had some leaks in the roof and needed to get patched up and the roof painted.  We removed the old air conditioner, which didn't work anyway, off the roof and put a 1/4 piece of Plexiglas over the hole.  Now we have a nice sky light.  The roof got a couple layers of roof paint and it seems to have fixed the leaks.  I won't be able to get any packet radio work done this week.  I need to get all of the equipment ready to provide the communications, race clocks, and the announcing of the runners for a large High School/Middle School Cross County event this coming Saturday.  There will be eight races, and we will tied-up most of the day.   There were only 30 check-ins to the Statewide DAREN Net this week.  Roy Humes, N8RH, who has been participating in the net since April 2, 1994, has completed 1150 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate.  Julie Paugh, KB3URS, needs only one more check-in to make 200.
