DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A Statewide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

I went a SIRN (Statewide Interoperability Radio Network) Meeting in Ripley this past Thursday.  I was a rider with two other Amateurs, Bill Davidson, N8JXO, and Rick Saywer, WV8DOC.  If I had been doing the driving, I would have made a stop by the Jackson County NODE/PBBS of JACKWV/RPLYWV to see why it is off the air.  When I get some spare time, I'll make a trip to the site.  While we were at the meeting, I talked some of the Amateurs from Charleston.  They told me the Charleston Hamfest may be moving to another location in 2020.  It's not confirmed yet, but they think it's going to happen.  Don't forget to put the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest on your calendar.  The Hamfest will be held at the Wood County 4-H Campgrounds in Mineral Wells on October 12th.   This coming week is going to be very busy.  The Parkersburg Homecoming will be held on August 16th, 17th, and 18th.  And, the Parkersburg Half Marathon will be held on Saturday, August 17th.  I will need to take six trailers to the Homecoming area to set up for the BINGO games.  The Wood County Emergency Communications group will be operating the games.  We need to set up a 24 foot by 80-foot canopy, 36 tables and about 150 chairs in a parking lot at the homecoming.  After the homecoming is over, then we get to take everything down Sunday night so it will be out of the area for parking Monday morning.  This is always a very busy week and weekend.  Several Wood County Amateurs will be stationed at each of the 12 Mile Markers around the Half Marathon racecourse. They will be operating the race clocks and providing the safety communications.   There were 32 check-ins to the Statewide DAREN Net this week.  I want to welcome back a couple Amateurs who have been gone from the net for a while. Barbara Roy, KC8LYS, from Parsons has been away since February 22, 2014, and Robert Roy, KA3JWA, from West Grove, PA, who has been away since January 15, 2000.  I have a feeling both were visiting Gene Roy, N8ER, over the weekend.
