DAREN News are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A Statewide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

It's been another slow, but busy week.  Nothing has been done on Packet.  I'm getting ready for the WCEC (Wood County Emergency Communications) Business Meeting and Annual Picnic, which will be held on Tuesday, August 6th.  I'm also getting everything ready for the Parkersburg Homecoming and Half Marathon.  The homecoming is one of the groups largest fund-raising events of the year.  The WCEC group operates the BINGO games August 16th, 17th, and 18th.  I have SIRN (Statewide Interoperable Radio Network) Meeting in Ripley to go to Thursday morning, and a Half Marathon Meeting Thursday evening.  The Half Marathon will be held on Saturday, August 17th.  The Amateurs in Wood County will be stationed at each of the 12 Mile Markers on the racecourse providing safety communications and operating the Race Clocks.  Terry Mills, KC8TUE, and I are getting ready to make a trip to Columbus, Ohio, to pick up the main prizes and maybe some door prizes for the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest.  The Hamfest will be held on October 12th at the Wood County 4-H Campgrounds in Mineral Wells.  We are planning to make the trip on Monday, August 19th, after the Homecoming and Half Marathon.  It seems like nothing ever slows down around here until winter, then it's too bad to do anything outside.

If you or your group has any activities going on, let me know about them.  I need something to write about.

There were 34 check-ins to the Statewide DAREN Net this week.  Gene Roy, N8ER, who's been participating in the net since May 1, 1993, has completed 1350 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate.
