DAREN News are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A Statewide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Not much to report this week.  I haven't heard from anyone, and I haven't done much work on packet. I'm still busy correcting problems and making changes from Field Day while they are still fresh on my mind.  I was asked from some of the local Amateurs if I had heard from anybody in the center of the state where severe flooding was happening.  I didn't even know there was any flooding going on since we haven't been having any rain, and the local news media didn't have any reports on it.  The DAREN system was started in 1985 after the major flooding in that area of the state which caused a lot of destruction and loss of life.  Most landline communications in that area were disrupted due to the flooding of some telephone offices, and telephones poles and cables being destroyed.

There were 30 check-ins to the Statewide DAREN Net this week.  Jim Woodford, KC8MLK, who has been participating in the net since February 7, 2004, has completed 750 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate.  Tricia Magyarosi, KC8VLI, needs only one more check-in to make 800.  And, Madison Sweitzer, KB3URT, needs only one more check-in to make 300.

That's it for this week.  Maybe I'll hear from others who have information to pass on.  If you have something that you think other people might be interested in let me know.
