DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State-Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Well, it looks like the wind that we had last weekend caused some trouble. While I was posting the DAREN News and State-Wide DAREN Net Announcement, I found I lost another station.  The Wirt County NODE/PBBS of WIRTWV/ELIZWV is off the air.  It looks like I have a lot of work when the weather gets better. I've finished rebuilding all the racing clocks, so now I may be able to get some time to start repairing all my DAREN stations.

I received an E-Mail from the ARRL about the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest. The Hamfest has been approved as an ARRL sanctioned Hamfest.  The Hamfest will be held on October 12th at the Wood County 4-H Camp Grounds in Mineral Wells, just south of Parkersburg.  Don't forget the Charleston Hamfest is coming up and will be held on March 23rd, at the Charleston Civic Center.

This is just a reminder that if your club or group is a business in West Virginia, and/or an IRS 501c3 Non-Profit organization, your business licenses needs to be renewed by July.  If your fiscal year ends on the last day of December, you have until May 15th to get your 501c3 Tax Return reported to the IRS.  If your 501c3 isn't reported for three years in a row, your group will lose its Non-Profit Tax-Exempt status.  I just finished getting the Wood County Emergency Communication records all caught up today.

There were 34 check-ins to the State-Wide DAREN Net this week.  Keith Dobbins, N8KLD, who's been participating in the net since May 3, 2008, has completed 250 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate.  Morris (Mo) Kittle, AD8T, needs only one more check-in to make 150.  Now that I have completed working on, and rebuilding the racing clocks, I will be able to start printing up the DAREN Check-In Certificates for those who have been waiting for them.  May be in the next couple weeks I can get them printed up and mailed out.
