DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: firstname.lastname@example.org. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.
The State Wide DAREN Net was down a little bit this week. I saw that a few stations weren't able to make it in. While I was posting the DAREN News and Net Announcement last week I noticed the Ohio County NODE/PBBS of OHIOWV/WLNGWV seemed to be off the air. I got an E-Mail from Gary Rosenlieb, KC8YJJ, telling me that he has contacted Matt Koval, who is the SYSOP of the station to let him know it was down. Gary says that he has a path to get into the Northern Panhandle. He says the path is from the Monongalia County NODE/PBBS of MONOWV/MGTNWV, through his station of KC8YJJ-7. With the coming high winds this weekend, he has lowered the tower to prevent it from being damaged, but he has a path works. He says the KC8YJJ-7 station is up 24/7. If you need to get into the Northern Panhandle, you are more then welcome to use his station. I want to thank Gary for helping to maintain a path in the DAREN system.
I'm still working on the racing clocks that we use for Road Runs and Cross Country races. I have 10 of the 12 clocks ready to be used. The first race will be held on April 27th. If there are any bugs in the clocks, I should have them corrected and ready for the race.
I have sent an application to the ARRL requesting the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest be an ARRL Hamfest. The Hamfest will be held on October 12th at the Wood County 4-H Camp Grounds on Butcher Bend Road in Mineral Wells, WV. Don't forget the Charleston Hamfest is coming up soon. The Charleston Hamfest will be held on March 23rd at the Charleston Civic Center.
There were only 33 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. Keith Dobbins, N8KLD, needs only one more check to make 250.
