DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: email@example.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.
Well, it happened. On Wednesday morning, the regular Wood County NODE/PBBS of WOODWV/PKBGWV went off the air when the temperature got down to about eight degrees. I was lucky that I was able to correct some of the audio problems on the backup system before it got too cold. When the regular station went off the air, all I had to do was connect to the backup system and change the NODE name and the PBBS name, and it was ready to go. While testing out the backup station I noticed I was able to connect to one station that I haven't connected to in a long time. The backup station was able to connect directly to the Randolph County NODE/PBBS of RANDWV/ELKNWV. The backup station was also able to make a direct connection to the Mason County NODE/PBBS of MASOWV/PTPLWV, which I couldn't do with the regular station. When I take the backup station to the Wood County E-911 tower site, I hope I have the same results. The E-911 tower site is about 100 feet higher than here at my house. I may still have an audio level problem that needs to be taken care of, but at least the back-up system is available when needed. The backup station still has problems connecting to some of the other stations that it needs to connect to.
Not much else to write about. I just need to do some more work on the Wood County backup station.
There were 40 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.
