DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.
Well, now that winter is here, and the cold weather, I remember something I was supposed to do. Last winter the Wood County NODE/PBBS of WOODWV/PKBGWV would quit working when the temperature got down to 32 degrees. I'll have to keep my fingers crossed that it will stay in operation until I can put a new station together. Since last year I've acquired some 100 Watt Motorola radios which will operate in the 145 MHz range, and have already been programed for the DAREN frequency. Also my nephew Sammy Mercer, N8SVX, and I have programed some firmware of Version 9.1 for the Kantronics KPC-3 Plus. Since I have the equipment to put them together, it shouldn't take too long to built a station to replace the old one. On a temporary basis, I may put the station on the air here at the house on one of my towers until I can get with Duane Jones, N8LDM, of the E-911 Center to get access to the tower site and swap out the stations.
The Wood County Emergency Communications group is getting ready to hold a One Day Technician Class radio class. The class will be held on February 9th at the Mid Ohio Health Department in Parkersburg. If you know of any one who is interested in taking the class let them know about it and they can contact me for more information.
Not much else to write about this week, but if you have anything to pass on to those who read the DAREN News let me know.
There were 37 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. Quentin (Butch) Sayers Jr.,WV8BS, needs only one more check-in to make 250.
