DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State-Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

I received a telephone call yesterday from Larry Cook, KC8ZRE, who's a member of the Jackson County Amateur Radio Club.  The club has been having a noise interference problem with their 146.67 MHz voice repeater for a while, so they started looking for the interference.  Larry said they spent about 6 hours at the repeater site trying to find the problem.  The repeater is located at one of the county tower sites so there are plenty of transmitters in the building. The DAREN NODE/PBBS of JACKWV/RPLYWV is also at the same tower site.  Larry said that while they were tightening any loose coax connecters, he also took a look at the DAREN station.  He said the station has power going to it, but the transceiver doesn't show a frequency on it.  Now I have a place to start repairing the station when I make it down to Jackson County.  When I go to Jackson County, I may take a trip over Roane County and look at the NODE/PBBS of ROANWV/SPNCWV station since it's been off the air for quite some time.  I want to thank Larry for looking at the Jackson County DAREN station, and giving me the report.

Well, things are coming along with the racing clocks that I'm rebuilding.  The printed circuit boards, which are the heart of the clocks, are being assembled and about ready to test.  I still need to do a lot work on the displays, so they can be easily changed, if I have any problems with them.  I need to strip out the four circuit boards that are in the clocks now, so I can replace them with one circuit board.

There were only 33 check-ins to the State-Wide DAREN Net this week.  Lisa Hendershot, KB8UER, who has been participating in the net since August 20, 1994, has completed 1250 check-ins.  And, Mike Tyker, WA8YWO, needs only one more check-in to make 150.
