DAREN News are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State-Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving, and didn't eat too much, and if you went hunting, I hope you got what you went after.

Not much to write about again this week.  I've been trying to get one of my major projects done before spring gets here.  April will be the first of several Road Runs in the area, and the Amateurs in Wood County will be providing the Safety Communications and the racing clocks at each of the Mile Markers.  When I built the racing clocks a few years ago, there were mistakes that I made, and I've been babying them along ever since.  This year I decided to rebuild the electronics for the clocks and correct the mistakes, so they should work a lot better and a lot less maintenance.  The last thing I did with the clocks was build a remote start circuit in them, so they could all be started at the same time over the air.  At the Parkersburg Half Marathon held in August, five out of twelve clocks started over the air with no problems. The rest of the clocks needed to be started manually.  The clocks, as they are right now, have four different circuit boards tied together with wires and cables.  The new circuit boards that I'm building have three of the circuits built on the mother board, and the forth circuit is being done away with.  Each of the old circuit boards are mounted with 4 screws each.  When there was a problem, the board needed to be taken out, and the wiring disconnected.  The new clock mother board will have a 20-pin plug on it and will plug into a jack mounted inside the clock box.  There will be no screws to remove if a mother board needs worked on.  Anyway, that's what I'll be working on while the weather is too cold and snowy to be outside.

If you have any activities that you are working on and want to let those who read the DAREN News know what you're doing, let me know.  I need something to put in the News when the nothing about the DAREN system or other Packets Radio networks that I can write about.

There were only 31 check-ins to the State-Wide DAREN Net this week.
