DAREN News are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State-Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

This week will be another busy week.  The Wood County Emergency Communications group will be providing the Safety Communications and racing clocks for some more High School Cross Country races on Tuesday, and I need to get everything ready for the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest.  Since the races and Hamfest are going to be at the same location, I'm planning on taking the trailer with the tables to the 4-H Camp Grounds on Tuesday when I go to the races.  I need to get all of the door prizes put together, so I can take them down on Friday when we start sitting up the building.  Don't forget the Hamfest is this coming Saturday, October 13th.  The Hamfest will be at the 4-H Camp Grounds on Butcher Bend Road, Mineral Wells.  Mineral Wells is Exit 170 of I-77, South of Parkersburg.  There will be people at the Hamfest building all night Friday, so if you want to come early, you are more than welcome.  There is no set time that you can come into the Hamfest building area.  Don't forget there will be Free Coffee all day at the Hamfest, and door prizes will be given away every five minutes.

I don't know how the rest of the country did on the FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) Nationwide Presidential Alert Test on Wednesday, but I know several cellphones that didn't get the message.  I have four Tracfone cellphones that I use for our portable PBX (Private Branch Exchange) telephone system, and they got the message.  But my personal Verizon cellphone didn't receive the text message.  I've talked to several people who either didn't get the message or knew someone who didn't get it.  I guess FEMA was hoping that at least 75% of all cellphone would get the test message.

There were 30 check-ins to the State-Wide DAREN Net this week.  I finally got a new color printer for my computer.  Now I can start printing up the DAREN Check-in Certificates, that several operators have been waiting for.  I may try to get them printed up before the Hamfest Saturday and have them there.  That will depend on how much spare time I have this week.  Hope to see you at the Hamfest.
