DAREN News are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State-Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

That's another event over.  I just got home from a week of pulling trailers to Mountwood Park, and a long weekend.  The Wood County Emergency Communications group operated the BINGO games at the Volcano Days Festival Friday, Saturday, and today.  With all the rain that we received over the past couple weeks, the area of the event was muddy.  Where the BINGO canopy was set up at was a little bit better than the rest of the area.  A few years ago the park maintenance people drug a lot of gravel out of the lake and put it where the BINGO canopy is set up.  The only mud we had was about an inch or so, but to get to the canopy you had to go through ankle deep mud.  There were several die hard, dedicated BINGO players who did play, so we made some money.  The group also provided the festival official with radios to coordinate the event.  The Parkersburg Amateur Radio Klub operated a Special Event Station from about 10:00 am to about 5:00 pm on Saturday.  They said the 40 Meter Band was up and down, but they did okay on 20 Meters.  I think they said they only made 84 contacts, which was about half of what they did last year, but they had a good time.  Now we are getting ready for the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest which will be held in a couple of weeks on October 13th at the 4-H Camp Ground on Butcher Bend Road in Mineral Wells.

Some of the Wood County Amateurs will be providing communications and racing clock for a Middle School Cross Country foot racing event on Tuesday, October 2nd.  It's a good thing there are only 2 races, since their monthly business meeting will be held about an hour after the races.

Don't forget that FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) will be holding a Nationwide Presidential Alert Test this coming Wednesday.  The test will start at 2:18 pm EST.  The test will start with a text message being sent to all Cellphones.  The test was supposed to be held last month, but with Hurricane Florence hitting the east coast, the test was postponed.

There were 33 check-ins to the State-Wide DAREN Net again this week.  I still haven't got a printer set up to print the DAREN Check-in Certificates, but now I will have a little bit of time to Get-R-Done. Hi Hi
