DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State-Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Nothing much to report this week.  With Hurricane Florence hitting the East Coast, we are supposed to get a lot of rain if it starts up the Ohio River Valley.  They're not for sure which direction it will be going after it makes land fall, so we will just have to hid and watch.  I hope the storm gets it out of its system before Tuesday.  We are supposed to provide the Safety Communications and race clocks for another High School/Middle School Cross Country event Tuesday evening.

It will be nice to get all of the activities done for the summer.  I need to get around to several DAREN stations and get them in good working order before winter gets here.  With the Jackson County NODE/PBBS of JACKWV/RPLYWV down, it makes it hard, or impossible, for the operators in Jackson, Mason, and Nicholas County to get into the DAREN system, and the State-Wide DAREN Net.  Our communications group has three more cross country races, BINGO games at the Volcano Days Festival, the Hamfest in October, and just today I found out that we need to set up a canopy for another event in October, but I can't remember what it is.  I also found out there will be someone at the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest to check QSL Cards for those who need them checked for certificates.

There were 36 check-ins to the State-Wide DAREN Net this week.  Roy Humes, N8RH, who has been participating in the net since April 2, 1994, has completed 1100 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate.  I started to print out check-in certificates for those who have been waiting, but I ran into a little problem.  My all-in-one printer seems to have quit working.  When I turn it on it goes into and Error mode, and the computer doesn't recognize it.  I've got several old printers around, but they don't use the same ink cartridges, and I don't have printer drivers to go onto the computer yet.  If I don't get something going soon, I'm just going to buy a new printer.  There's always something that keeps me from getting my work done.

That's it for now.  I you have any information you would like to pass on to anyone who reads the DAREN News, let me know.
