DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State-Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.
It's been another quiet week. Several Amateur Radio operators provided the communications and equipment for the Chic-Fil-A High School/Middle School Cross Country Races yesterday. We were concerned about the storms the National Weather Service was predicting. The storms held off for the races, but the rain came about an hour after all of the canopies, radio systems, and race clocks were loaded up and left the 4-H Camp Grounds. There were over 1450 students that participated in the eight races. Unlike other years, there were no major mishaps with the runners. The race officials wanted to remind the group about the cross-country races being held on Tuesday, September 18th.
I still haven't had time to get back to the APRS Digipeater and change out the TNC. Even though the Digipeater is located in my back yard.
Just a couple reminders, the PARK (Parkersburg Amateur Radio Klub) will be operating a Special Event Station on September 29th at the Volcano Festival which will be held on September 28th, 29th, and 30th. The SES will be operated from about 8:00 am to about 5:00 pm on 20 and 40 Meters. Be sure to put the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest on your calendar. It will be held on October 13th, at the 4-H Camp Grounds on Butchers Bend, Mineral Wells. We are still gathering up door prizes that will be given away every five minutes. To name just a few of the major door prizes, that you need to be present to win are: a Tigertronics SigaLink USB Sound Card Radio Interface, $25 and $50 Gift Certificates, 5 Hand Held VHF/UHF radios, and an 800-Watt Gasoline Generator. There are plenty of other items such as tools. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes, that you DON'T need to be present to win are: an Alinco DX-SR8T HF Transceiver, Yeasu FTM-3200 DR/DE 2 Meter Transceiver, and an Alinco DJ-500 Dual Band 144/470 Hand Held Transceiver. Hope to see you on October 13th.
There were 33 check-ins to the State-Wide DAREN Net this week. Roy Humes, N8RH, needs only one more check-in to the net to make 1100. I noticed that one operator was missing to the net this week. I checked the backup log, just to be sure. I hope everything is okay. I'll see what happens on this week’s net.
As soon as I can get some of my chores done around the house that have been put off a few weeks, I'm going to start printing up the Check-In Certificates that several operators have been waiting for.
