DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State-Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.
Not much to report this week. I will start getting ready for a large High School/Middle School Cross Country event. The event will be held next Saturday, September 8th. The Wood County Emergency Communications group will be providing a 24 by 40 Medical Tent, the racing clocks, the spotting of the runners as they approach the Finish Line, and all the radio communications for the workers, Mile Markers, and 4-Wheeler Safety Vehicles.
In a couple weeks the group will start getting ready for the Volcano Days festival that will be held on September 28th, 29th, and 30th. The group will be operating the BINGO games at the festival. It sounds like and easy way to raise operating funds, but a lot of work goes into getting things ready. We need to pull 5 trailers loaded with the canopies, tables, chairs, BINGO equipment, and the communications trailer used as an office. The group also provides the communications for the 10 or more festival officials. After the Volcano Days festival, things will start slowing down and there will be some smaller High School/Middle School Cross Country races and the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest which will be held on October 13th at the Butcher Bend 4 H Camp Grounds in Mineral Wells.
During the Volcano Days festival, the Parkersburg Amateur Radio Klub will be holding a Special Event Station. The SES will only be operated from about 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday, September 29th. The group will be operating on 20 and 40 Meter Phone. Even though the ARRL QST said the SES will be held on the 22nd, look for them on the 29th.
There were 31 check-ins to the State-Wide DAREN Net again this week.
