DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

I received and E-Mail from Mike Tyler, WA8YWO.  Mike said he has the Webster County NODE/PBÂS up and running.  The NODE is WEBSWV and the PBBS is WEBMSG. He says there's a good path from the Nicholas County NODE of NICHWV and can usually hit it on the first try.  He said it's not a powerhouse, but does work very well.  I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.  He is hoping to replace the antenna later with one that has more gain.  I want to thank Mike for helping keep the DAREN system active and growing.

I'm going to be very busy this week.  I have some repair work to do on the 12 Race Clocks that I built, and get them ready for the Parkersburg Half Marathon which will be held next Saturday, August 18th.  I'm also going to start taking trailers to the Parkersburg Homecoming which will be held August 17th, 18th, and 19th.  The Wood County Emergency Communications group will be operating the BINGO games at the homecoming.  Since we have to provide our own shelter, tables and chairs, we need to take six trailers to the event.  We'll start setting up everything on Thursday evening.  This is always a very busy week an$ weekend.

Don't forget the West Virginia ARRL State Convention coming up the weekend of August 24th, 25th, and 26th.  The Convention will be held at Jackson's Mill State Park.  I screwed up the dates last week, I showed it as the 23rd, 24th, and 25th.

There were 35 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  There was one new participant to the net this week, and that was Michael Dooley, KJ4VZU, from Palestine, WV.  I talked to Mike at the Wood County Emergency Communications business meeting/picnic on Tuesday.  He has been playing with Packet Radio for a short time and says he really likes it.  I want to welcome Mike to the DAREN system and hopes he checks into the net as often as possible.

That's all I have for now, so we'll write again next week and hope to see you at the State Convention on the 25th.
