DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: email@example.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing theMAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.
I haven't had the time to get the TNC upgraded for the APRS Digipeater located on one of my towers here at the house yet. I've been busy getting the racing clocks ready for the Parkersburg Half Marathon coming up on August 18th, and getting all the equipment together for the BINGO games at the Parkersburg Homecoming on August 17th, 18th, and 19th.
Nothing much else is happening in the line of the DAREN system. As soon as I can find some spare time, I'd like to get to some of the remote DAREN sites and get some of the stations back in good working order.
Don't forget the West Virginia ARRL State Convention coming up the weekend of August 23rd, 24th, and 25th. The Convention will be held at Jackson's Mill State Park.
If you have any activities or information you would like to pass on to other Amateurs, let me know. I'm always looking for something to write about.
There were 32 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. Gene Roy, N8ER, who's been participating in the net since May 1, 1993, has completed 1300 check-ins. Krista Mills, KC8VLJ, who's been participating in the net since December 28, 2002, has completed 750 check-ins. And, Julie Paugh, KB3URS, who's been participating in the net since November 24, 2012, has completed 150 check-ins. All of these operators will be receiving their certificates. I'm getting behind again on getting certificates printed up. It just seems like there are too many things going on all the time.
That's it for this week. Maybe we'll have some useful information in next weeks DAREN News.
