DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Nothing much has happened this past week.  But, I'm going to be busy getting things ready for Field Day.  It's supposed to be warm this week and maybe some thunder storms.  Maybe we can get the storms out of the area so we can have good weather for Field Day.  Since we are holding our Field Day on property owned by my sister, Anna Hendershot, KC8JWW, we are planning to take a couple trailers to the site today.

Sammy Mercer, N8SVX, and I have been working with some of our Kantronics KPC-3 Plus TNCs.  I have upgraded two of my TNCs from Version 7.0 and 8.2 to Version 9.1.  Upgrading the KPC-3 Plus to Version 9.1 will allow the Mailbox or PBBS to allow up to 10 people to connect to the PBBS at the same time.  By allowing several operators connect to the PBBS as the same time, makes the PBBS act more like a full blown BBS that used to be popular on some of the other Packet frequencies.  The PKBGWV PBBS is a Version 9.1, and it is set up to allow five operators connect to it at the same time.  When I get that station replaced the PBBS will be set up the same way.

There were 33 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Frank Hughes, WD8DEP, who has been participating in the net since November 20, 2004, has completed 650 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate.  My wife Dot, KC8HAI, needs only one more check-in to make 1100.  My Son Kevin, KC8OXY, needs only one more check-in to make 900.  And, Jim Woodford, KC8MLK, needs only one more check-in to make 700.  As soon as Field Day is over, and before I get back to working on our groups racing clocks for the Half Marathon in August, I will start printing up the certificate for those who are waiting for them.
