DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: firstname.lastname@example.org. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.
Not much to report this week. Some of the Amateurs in the Wood County area provided the race clock and safety communications for the annual Chic-Fil-A Road Race yesterday. We thought we had the problems fixed in the remote start of the race clocks, but, we still have some problems to work out. There's always a challenge when you are doing something new. If they work the first time, I wouldn't know what to think. At least we have a couple months to fix the problems that we've identified before we need to use them at the Parkersburg Half Marathon on August 18th.
This coming Saturday, May 26th, we will be making a trip to Mountwood Park for another activity. Since we are going to be there, and the Ritchie County NODE/PBBS of RITCWV/HRVLWV is located on a hill top at the park, we're going to take equipment to get the DAREN station back in good working order.
Don't forget to mark your calendar for the ARRL WV State Convention on August 25th. The state convention will be held at Jackson's Mill State Park. I'm going to be able to make it to the convention this year since the convention has been moved to a week later and not fall on the same weekend as the Parkersburg Homecoming. The Wood County Emergency Communications group will be operating the BINGO games at the homecoming.
There were 34 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. Randy Thomas, K8KHW, who has been participating in the net since February 13, 1999, has completed 700 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate. Terry Mills, KC8TUE, needs only one more check-in to make 750.
