DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.
I heard on the West Virginia Fone Net there was a Silent Key of an Amateur who had operated on the DAREN system for awhile and had checked into the State Wide DAREN Net a few times between September 29, 2001 and September 26, 2008. Michael Whitlow, KC8RGV, passed away on April 10th.
Gene Roy, N8ER, sent me some information about the Randolph County NODE/PBBS of RANDWV/ELKNWV which has been off the air for a few weeks. Gene said that he has the station repaired and is at his house. He is waiting to get the station to Morris (Mo) Kittle, AD8T, and Zane Hammack, WV8ZH, who will get the station back upon the mountain.
Since I've been having a hard time getting into some of the PBBSs and getting the DAREN News and Net Announcements posted, one of the regulars on the State Wide DAREN Net said he would help. Michael Whitlow, KC8YJJ, in Toronto, Ohio said that if I E-Mail him the DAREN News and State Wide Net Announcements that he would post them on the PBBSs in Northern Panhandle. I want to thank Michael for that help.
Wood County Emergency Communications held VE Testing yesterday. There was three people who took tests. Kathy, KE8GUD, and Jeff, KE8GUC, Blevins, upgraded to General, and Edward Close took and passed his Technician test.
It looks like the Ritchie County NODE is getting worse. When you connect to RITCWV, you get connected to Channel "D" which means the other three Channels are out of service. You can still Digipeat through RITCWV if you can't get connected to the NODE.
There were only 27 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. There was one new check-in to the net this week and that was Phillip Richardson, KE8GCL, from Parkersburg. I want to welcome Phillip to the DAREN system, and hope he checks into the State Wide DAREN Net as often as possible.
Not much else to report this. I just hope some good weather gets here so that I can get outside work started and get to some of the tower sites to get some DAREN stations repaired.
