DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Well, the hard drive on my main packet computer crapped out.  It's been running DOS programs, and I just couldn't find time to convert everything over to Windows.  I now have to look through all my back-up records and files, and get them converted to Windows programs.  I guess it pays to make sure you back everything up and know where it's stored.  It may take a while to get everything converted, but I can still use some of my old computers to do some of the DAREN work.

Not much to report this week.  Most of our group’s activities are done for this year.  I've been working on 150 metal folding chairs that we use for our BINGO games.  I have been repairing and reinforcing them.  Now they need painted.  We purchased the chairs in 1990, and re-painted them in 1998.  Since the chairs don't have a good place to be stored when not in use, the weather has been rough on them.  In the last 27 year or so, we've got our money's worth out them.  They have been used for two to three BINGO games each year, and they have been loaned to the fire departments and other organizations many times. There are a lot of little things that needs to be done to get ready for next year’s activities.  After the chairs get re-painted, I figure we can get another 20 years out of them.  I still have several DAREN packet stations to get put back in good working order, and with winter coming it will be hard to get to some of the tower sites.  It's hard to believe how much work needs to be done, and most of it is not for me.

Well, if anyone has anything they would like to pass on, let me know, I need something to write about.

There were 35 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Judy Peterson, N8UFQ, who has been participating in the net since October 31, 1992, has completed 1300 check-ins, and will be receiving her certificate.  Since I haven't heard from anyone about not getting their Check-in Certificates I assume that project is caught up.  Now I'll try not to get so far behind again.
