DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.
I finally got all of the State Wide DAREN Net Certificates printed for those who have been waiting for them. When I got ready to put them in an envelope to mail, I found that I didn't have enough. While I was in town Friday I purchased enough envelopes to last me for awhile. I will be going back into town on Tuesday for the Wood County Emergency Communications meeting. I will take all of them to the Post Office at that time. Everyone waiting for their certificate should have it in their hands by the next State Wide DAREN Net. If you have been waiting for a certificate, and don't get it, let me know.
I received a flier in the mail about the Charleston Hamfest. The 34th Annual Charleston Area Hamfest will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018, from 9 AM to 2 PM. The location of the Hamfest will be the Charleston Civic Center, 200 Civic Center Drive, in Charleston. Admission to the Hamfest is $7 with those at 12 years old and under free. The 1st Place Prize will be $500. Second Place Prize will be an Alinco DR185 2 Meter Mobile. Third Place Prize will be a Jetstream 31 Amp Power Supply. There will be four Dual Band Handie/Talkies given away with other door prizes. You can reserve your tables early by contacting Rick Cummings, WV8RC at: rickwv8rc@gmail.com or at (304) 610-6404. Setup is on Friday, March 23rd from 4 PM to 8 PM, and Saturday from 7 AM to 8:30 AM. There were 33 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net again this week. Kendale Peterson, KD8QAK, who has been participating in the net since April 23, 2011, has completed 350 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate. Kendal’s mother Judy Peterson, N8UFQ, needs only one more check-in to make 1300.
