DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Not much to report on this week.  There is a big fire burning here in Wood County.  Just on the out skirts of Parkersburg there is a warehouse that covers 7 to 8 acres or about a city block that has been burning since about midnight Friday night or Saturday morning.  The whole building was on fire when the fire departments were alerted of it.  There have been at least 20 fire departments, and 100 fire fighters, from Wood County and the surrounding counties fighting the fire.  They figure it will take from two more days to a week to get the fire out.  They don't know what started the fire, and won't know until it is out, if they ever do.  Since it was just a warehouse and no one and no work was being done in it, there were no communication problems, so no back-up or overload communications are needed.  The Wood County Amateurs are just monitoring the fire by radio.

Now that I have time to work on some of my Packet stations on the hilltops the rain is going to make it hard to get to them.  It just seems like there is not enough good days available when I don't have something else to do.

If anyone has something they would like to report on, let me know.  Until I can get to some of my hilltop locations, and get some of my DAREN stations back in good working order I won't have much to write about.

There were only 29 check-ins to the net again this week.  John Western, KC8ODI, who has been participating in the net since March 13, 2004, has completed 600 check-ins.  And, Morris (Mo) Kittle, AD8T, who has been participating in the net on and off since May 17, 2003, has completed 100 check-ins.  Both of these operators will be receiving their certificates shortly.  Since most of my activities are over, and I have ink for my printer, I'll start printing up the certificates for those who have been waiting for them.
