DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

I'm going to be busy again this week.  Wood County Emergency Communications (WCEC) has been asked to provide the Safety and Mile Marker communications for another High School/Middle School Cross Country racing event.  The races will be held at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, September 19th.  WCEC will be operating their racing clocks at Miles One and Two of the three mile races.  They will also be providing the lead and chase vehicles with radio communications.  On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, I'll be pulling trailers to Mountwood Park to set up the operation of the BINGO games for the Volcano Days festival.  The Volcano Days festival will start at about 5:00 pm on Friday, September 22nd, and go to about 5:00 pm on Sunday, September 24th.

There is an update on the Parkersburg Amateur Radio Klub (PARK) Special Event Station (SES).  The SES will be commemorating the days when oil was a big business in the city of Volcano in Wood County, WV.  The SES will be on the air from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday, September 23rd.  The station will be operating on 20 and 40 Meter Fone.  They will be using the call sign of W8PAR. If you get a chance to stop by the station, it will be located near the BINGO operation.

There were only 30 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net again this week.  Opie Nutter, KC8ZBQ, who has been participating in the net since February 17, 2007, has completed 150 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate.
