DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.

Nine Amateur in the Wood County area helped with the High School/Middle School Cross Country foot races yesterday.  I don't know how many school participated in the races, but there were over 1570 students that were registered.  There were eight races held.  Four of the races were three miles long, and four of them that were two miles gong.  The weather was cool so we didn't have any heat problems with the runners like we usually do.  The amateurs provided the communications around the race course, and provide and operated the racing clock at the mile markers.  They provided radios for the 4 Wheelers that were used as lead and follow up vehicles.  They also provide a large canopy for the medical personal and smaller ones for those working the ticket booth and the race announcer.

Wood County Emergency Communications will be operating the BINGO games at the Volcano Festival on September 22nd, 23rd, and 24th.  The festival will be held at Mountwood Park about 15 miles east of Parkersburg on Route 50.  On Saturday, the Parkersburg Amateur Radio Klub (PARK) will be operating a Special Event Station from about 8:00 am until 5:00 pm.  The information about the Special Event Station is in the ARRL QST Magazine.  The station will be set up close to the BINGO tent.

There were only 30 check-ins.  Roy Humes, N8RH, who has been participating in the net since April 2, 1994, has completed 1050 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate, as soon as I can get started on them.  I know there are several operators who are waiting for their certificates.  Opie Nutter, KC8ZBQ, needs only one more check-in to make 150.

That's it for this week.  If any one has something they would like to have put in the DAREN News, let me know.
